Dirnenlied

In Germany and Austria, "Dirnenlied" was shown as a theatre piece. It is published by Litag-Theaterlag. Like the theatre piece, the movie presents "Dirnenlied" as a criminal comedy, settled in the roaring twenties of the past century. Karla is supposed to be a lady, but doesn't feel the strong need to behave like one and speaks with a strong Berlin accent. In 1927 she drives her Mercedes Benz heading for Italy. In Innsbruck she is stopped by the police, who interrogates her. Karla is involved in a mysterious crime. A friend of hers, an actress, is missing. Karla is interrogated by an Innsbrucker police officer who was wounded in World War I. This way her character with the "Berliner Schnauze" meets the down to earth officer with the "Tiroler Hausverstand". Karlas friend is missing after having shown a scandalous striptease in a bourgeois theatre in a well-situated area of Berlin. The high society audience was shocked and horrified. Karla von Stelzenbül then decided to investigate on her own intiative. During the interrogation Karlas storys become alive. All of a sudden, the police Inspector and Karla find themselves back in the nightlife of Berlin. All the main characters are shown. In the end, everything Karla believed in is undermined. The team of "Dirnenlied" consists of people who practice and love theatre, which is noticeable in the movie.

Director Statement

By its artistic means this crime comedy, made with Anne Clausen (author of the stage play) and Omar Borubaev (co-director / director of photography / SFX), dares a balancing act between film and theatre.
The acting of the artists finds itself in the flair of the 20s but also in the fug and confines of the conservative circles from which our main character finally frees herself.
During interrogation with the police of Innsbruck a "culture clash" ensues.
