Izu Okafor, a filmmaker based in Owerri and animal/environmental biology graduate, has transitioned into a cinematic storyteller. His journey includes mastering video editing under the mentorship of AMAA winning editor Stephen Onaji Onche, contributing to TV projects like "Mustapha," "Love Me," "Greenlight," and more.
Izu pursued producer training with Chris Odeh, recognized for remakes of Nollywood classics such as "Rattlesnake" and "Living in Bondage." In 2022, Izu collaborated on "Chiugo," earning recognition at film festivals.
In parallel, he serves as a cinematographer, editor, and project manager while building Julob, his ambitious entertainment brand in Africa. His inspiration for film characters stems from everyday interactions, and he aspires to tell impactful stories, especially untold African narratives, as a producer and director.
Dinobi is an Igbo language phrase meaning 'in my heart.' This project is my first-ever feature film, and it holds a special place in my heart because it tells the true-life story of a friend.
The film revolves around a young Nigerian student and poet, who, amidst the harsh abuse and neglect inflicted by his cruel stepmother, discovers solace in the power of friendship. When he faces an unjust arrest, it becomes a test of his resilience and inner strength.
'Dinobi' is a story of survival and redemption. It delves into the human spirit's ability to endure even the most challenging circumstances and emerge stronger. This heartfelt narrative highlights the importance of connections, the pursuit of justice, and the indomitable will to overcome adversity.
As a filmmaker, I poured my passion and dedication into every frame of this project, and it is my hope that the audience will feel the depth of emotion and the profound message that 'Dinobi' embodies. Through this film, we aim to share a powerful story that resonates with the human experience, reminding us all that hope, friendship, and resilience can conquer the darkest of moments. 'Dinobi' is not just a film; it is a piece of my heart that I am thrilled to share with the world.
