Director Biography - Samuel Luna III, Lucas Odysseus Luna

Samuel and Lucas Luna grew up in a Pomona, CA. They've shared very similar taste in all things, specifically film and video games. When Samuel turned 18, he moved out of their parents house and didn't live in the same city as Lucas for over a decade. Recently Lucas and Samuel both ended up living in Los Angeles and decided to start making films together. Something that they've always dreamed of doing since they were young. "Destiny" marks their second short film and they continue to be inspired to make more and more films.

Director Statement

This film came to me in a vision when I first head Steve Goldmund's song "Re-Scanning". The song put me in a day dream and I saw all the characters speaking at once. I didn't know what they were saying exactly but I knew they were all from a different places. In my head I saw it play out like a commercial and knew I wanted it to be similar to a PSA. After the immersive experience I knew I had to make "Destiny".

I approached my brother about it and discussed my idea. We then wrote 3 monologues together and started shooting b roll. We decided stock footage we play a big part in the film as we wanted to see many different perspectives throughout the narrative. "Re-Scanning" is really the heart and soul of this film and was the biggest inspiration. I feel like this film plays a bit differently from a normal narrative short but nevertheless, it still has a very filmic identity. It's a story that is rarely told, the story of the American Middle Class man.
