OLIVIA STUBBE is a Writer, Director and Producer.
She was born 1986 in Eilenburg and grew up in Leipzig. After graduating from high school she spent 1 year working and travelling in New Zealand. She studied Philosophy and English in Potsdam and completed her Master's degree in Philosophy at the Humboldt University of Berlin. Her thesis dealt with the reality of emotions in fictional contexts, such as film or literature.
During her studies she worked on several productions at the SCHAUBÜHNE and GORKI theatre in Berlin.
To deepen her understanding of working with actors she attended the “Acting Shakespeare & Contemporary Theater” course at the renowned GUILDHALL SCHOOL OF MUSIC AND DRAMA in London. After completing her studies, she entered the film and television sector in 2016.
With GREY FEATHER FILMS, Olivia Stubbe produces the work of other directors, but is increasingly concentrating on her own material. As a writer and director, she is primarily interested in genre films with a strong female focus. Derp Girl is her third directorial work. Her next film, "Ultraviolet"(working title), will be her first feature film.
Currently, Olivia is working with Daniel Haingartner on his documentary feature on the subject of the “Self“.
She is a member of the BVR (the German Director's Association) and is connected to various networks such as WIFT Germany and the FILMNETZWERK Berlin.
The over-the-top Instagram girl who sat next to me in the café was the perfect protagonist for a genre film. I would send her to a creepy forest and then calmly think about how she might get out of there - or not.
It couldn't be more classic when it comes to horror films: Woman runs screaming through the forest. If she caught the male hero's interest, her chances of survival are better, otherwise it looks poor. It's almost like she's being punished for something.
And sadly, in my case, I knew exactly what for.
With how much disguised misogyny do we actually encounter other women - and thus ourselves?
The script changed accordingly. Kassy is forced to rely on her instincts in this unpredictable place with no cell phone reception, and because her fascination for adventure and magic is greater than her fear, she goes deeper and deeper into the forest.
Whether that is a good idea, is, of course, another question. It remains a genre film after all.
