As a child, Derek wanted a career based around playing with legos.
As a military brat, Derek grew up moving around the country every couple of years. Once his father (a retired general) reached a high enough position, they stayed permanently in St. Augustine, Florida - where they still managed to move, within the city, another five times.
An accomplished writer / director, Derek also works regularly in art department as prop master, set decorator, and production designer.
