BIOGRAPHY – Karlijn Reynaerts

Karlijn Reynaerts was born in 2001 and lives in the Kempen Kapellen, Belgium. She grew up with her younger sister in a traditional family. Her father worked as an accountant and her mother has a career as a cleaner.

Theory, sitting quietly and listening is something Karlijn has never really felt comfortable with. Ever since she started school, she has been doodling her books and covers. She is always busy writing and coming up with stories.

Karlijn already studied at the art secondary school, obtained a Multimedia diploma with high distinction, and was named the most evolved student. She also completed a Literary Creation course at the academy in Ekeren.

For the past three years, Karlijn has been exploring the world of animated film at the Sint-Lukas in Brussels. In her films, she pushes visual and narrative boundaries. Slit scans, scanografie, and other experimental in-camera, stop-motion techniques, which work under a flatbed scanner, form the most important parts of her visual research. She often works on emotional subjects and her work often goes hand in hand with literature & poetry. The relationship between image and sound largely determines her process.

Karlijn always seeks a way to connect with her audience through her work and stir up feelings in them.

She is dedicated, passionate, and driven in everything she does. She feels comfortable in the Photoshop, After Effects, and Premiere Pro workspace. In 2022 - 2023, Karlijn did an internship at Titlestv. She will also complete her bachelor's degree with the short film Derailed this year. A film about how someone with high sensitivity sees the world. A topic based on her own experiences.

In the future, Karlijn is looking to do her master's degree and further specialize in sound and visual storytelling.
