Departing

Younes is listening to his childhood voice on the road with his old walkman ... A mother and a little boy walking there ... He arrives In front of a boutique hotel and sits at a certain point. In the hotel at night, Younes records his inevitable decision on Departing ! there is a photograph of Younes, right like where he sat at the beginning of his arrival at the hotel ... Behind the photo is a note of his lost lover (Mitra) while his recorded voice of Walkman talking to his deceased mother ...night goes to the morning and he is still lying there ... On the same primary road, we approach the mother and child walking and the little boy returns ... The picture of mother and child is a photograph !

Director Biography - Masoud Motlagh

He was born in the eighties and his initial Theater &
Film writings started around when he was admitted
to the University of Art with great interest in theater
at the age of 20… In that four-year period, he wrote
several short and long plays including a short
screenplay about the life of a painter in only one crypt,
which was inspired by his cousin's life. He also wrote
poetries and was full of love... After graduation he was
experiencing analogue photography as well as writing
other excerpts and a complete manuscript of his first
feature film over the years, He gradually made a short
film in 2019. Named "Cold Ashes" which was accepted
in some film festivals. A year of dramaturgy and a lot of
financial and production difficulties. At the beginning
of 2023, after five months of postproduction, he made
his next short film, called "Departing" with a lot of hope
and looking forward ...

Director Statement

In the midst of countless economic problems in Iran,
I consciously decided to bring my next short
film, which I had been contemplating writing for
months, to the production stage... Some of the best in
Iranian cinema also helped me and worked hard for
eighteen to twenty hours a day (Due to the limited
production days), just because of devotion to the art!
To take the final scene around 3 at midnight, the leading
actor had shoulder dislocation when he had to throw
himself on the bathroom floor, and our veteran DoP had
very swollen legs due to the high working hours and
diabetes... But instead after making sure the shoot is
complete, I went straight to the hotel lobby in order to
prepare my schedules for tomorrow morning. That night I
felt myself more like an executioner than a director!
