Canadian born, Australian raised, then back across hemispheres again; a life full of travelling, instability, and broadening perspectives led Demelza to seek creativity to cultivate a sense of equilibrium — telling stories any time, anywhere. Her unique perspective weaves a softer tune that encourages introspection and patience, often crafting works which interrogate different expressions of authenticity. She can most frequently be found filming, writing, drawing, playlist compiling, drinking tea, and soaking up sunshine.
As a visual artist of many mediums, she is most inspired to create whilst in collaboration — be that with an emotion, person, song, or natural atmosphere as her muse. Modern times have shown her the importance of showing up in community with intentionality planted at the heart of the messages she seeks to share. Ethical inquiry, diverse representation, and holistic attention are core pillars to her approach, making any project an active extension of the soulful connections and visions she intends co-create. Storytelling is such a unique and personal outlet to process the human condition, which she finds endlessly fascinating. Demelza is constantly moved by new encounters with cinematography, scripts, and actors.
In 2022, Demelza co-founded Two Black Cats Film Productions alongside Léonore Lacaze. The pair frequently creatively collaborate across artistic mediums, most interested in producing projects which uplift independent artists through their holistic and heartfelt approach to telling underrepresented stories. Using TCBF Productions as a creative platform and diverse collective of emerging voices, they hope to offer strategic support and leadership across multiple phases of media production.
