Nathan Ellis is a former Army Captain and helicopter pilot who strives to mine from his unique life experiences to craft meaningful content for the screen. As a teen, it was Nathan’s passion for aviation and his desire to serve that drove him to earn an Army ROTC scholarship. Although getting selected for aviation service was no guarantee when enlisting, Nathan graduated college as the top cadet selected for flight
training nationwide.
It was during his seven years of active duty service that Nathan developed and embraced his love for film and decided that he wanted to become a filmmaker. Though, it wasn’t until after a year-long combat deployment to Afghanistan, where Nathan earned a Bronze Star and Air Medal for Valor, that he returned home with a new perspective on life and a deeper understanding of the human condition that he felt a burning desire to express through film.
After fulfilling his service obligation, Nathan went on to earn his MFA from the USC School of Cinematic Arts, where he was able to dedicate himself to the craft of storytelling. His short films and screenplays that he developed as a student have won numerous accolades, such awards as Best Military Filmmaker (GI Film Festival), Best Narrative Short (GI Film Festival), Best Screenwriting (USC First Look), and a Golden Angel Award (Chinese American Film Festival). Nathan also had an original feature-length screenplay place among the top 50 at the prestigious Academy Nicholl Fellowships.
Nathan’s long-term goal is to establish a combat veteran filmmaker presence in Hollywood
and to help foster stories of consequence that are both evocative and entertaining.
Without giving anything away, "Delivery" is intended to stand alone as a short film that tackles a prevalent, modern day issue in a unique way. It also serves to introduce a new kind of hero and concept for which further development into a feature film or series is in the works.
This project was a collaboration between USC School of Cinematic Arts alumni and military veterans in the creative arts, involving veterans both in front of and behind the camera and throughout all phases of production.
