Director Statement

I’ve always seen the struggles of Arab women since I was a kid, whether it’s sexual harassment on the street, struggling to maintain their freedom in their own houses and not being able to do whatever they want with their bodies without being slut-shamed or catcalled. I always questioned “why do men have the privilege to do whatever they want whenever they want and women can’t?” these thoughts kept going and going until I decided to mix these problems with what I’m good at, and that’s when I have decided to film ‘Deliverance: A Women’s Revolt’. As a man, I thought it’s important to stand against toxic masculinity and show men that they should all be feminists and stand against the patriarchy.

During my research I thought that there were too many topics that should be covered, such as sexual harassment, violence, body image, workplace discrimination, sexuality, race.

Within the previous events of the political events and how women had a huge role in it, and the various movements against sexual assault in the Arab world, I started thinking that Arab women need to have a voice and to also break down their stereotypes in front of the whole world; the film views the lives of Saudi, Palestinian, Egyptian, Lebanese, Jordanian and Moroccan women and it also views the lives of Arab women in diaspora.

This film is about speaking up and empowering women, this film is simply a love letter to Arab women.
