My name is Masamkele David Mzomba. I grew up in Willowvale in the Eastern Cape. I completed my schooling in 2011 at Badi Senior Secondary School. Thereafter, I got a bursary to go and study at the University of the Witwatersrand where I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2015.
After graduation, I took a job as a transcriber and assistant for documentaries and reality TV makers. Over time, they trusted me with more and more responsibilities which included camera operating, segment writing, editing and colour grading for shows such as The Scoop on SABC 3, Slope Slap on Netflix, Ink Therapy, Ring of Champions and many others.
My goal was always to be a film director and when an opportunity to make my first film presented itself, courtesy of AAA Entertainment, I did not waste it. My bosses offered to fund my first short film titled A Grave Confession. It was selected for a couple of festivals and picked up Best Short Film awards in a few of them. We later presented it to Showmax and they licensed it. It is currently available on their platform.
However, opportunities to direct films are few and far apart. To earn a living, I founded The Liminal Film Company where I provide video editing services, subtitling, QCing, script-writing et cetera with the hope to do full-fledged film and TV productions in the future.
