Dating with Parents

Through the framing device of talking to a solicitor that has knocked on the door of his family home, in spite of numerous 'no soliciting' signs, MAX REYNOLDS, our middle-aged protagonist tells
his story. While he had a lovely fiance and lived in Dallas, he got a call one day saying that his obese mother, VANESSA, had been admitted to a nursing home. As a result, Max makes the decision to move back and take care of his mother and elderly father, DAN. Here, his fiance cheats

on him with a rich, elderly man and leaves him, prompting Max to rejoin the dating market. Per the framing device, the audience discovers that Max has dated and slept with many girls.

We start with the story of CORRINE, who Max realizes is the daughter of the baseball commissioner and is just 19 years old, but only after sleeping with her. As a result, Max hustles her out of the room, despite her insistence that they should continue seeing each other. After a morning with his parents, Max talks with his friend and coworker at the Tuscan Villa Restaurant, BEAR, who is married with children. They discuss Dan potentially having dementia, leading Bear to disclose a humorous story about his uncle. His parents come to the restaurant, where they have dinner with his current girlfriend, AMANDA, who apparently suffers from stomach issues. After being called the wrong name by his father and being mildly insulted by his mother while Max worked, Amanda breaks up with Max.

Max coaches teenagers in his spare time as Dan was the commissioner of the baseball league (this frequently leads to arguments as Max assumes his father will blame him for losing a trophy from the past). He has a tumultuous relationship with a player named JONATHAN, whom me coaches and helps improve. One day while Max is cooking beef ribs, Vanessa falls. Unable to pick her up, Max and Dan call an ambulance. They rush to the hospital where Dan and Vanessa proclaim their love for each other as Vanessa dies.

Suddenly, the realization hits that it's just Max and Dan. With Dan dealing with Vanessa's passing and his dementia worsening, Max tries to get his father back on his feet. The two go grocery shopping where they run into a hot girl in yoga pants, but Max ultimately fails at seducing her because of his father. It's during this time that Max enforces the no solicitors rule due to Dan nearly giving
money to a politician rallying for a vote. Max gets a booty call from Amanda, who has
a tumor in her stomach and is due to undergo surgery. The two sleep together and Max is relieved when he gets a message from her the following day to say she's out of surgery safely. Max

eventually goes on another tinder date and while he doesn't like her all that much, he continues to
sleep with her. This culminates in Max eventually sleeping with his tinder date, while Amanda and

Corrine decide to invite themselves over, leading to Max having a breakdown in which he says he's
not committed to any of them and kicks them out of the house. Over the course of time, Max's

dating life has also become harder because of being financially pressed due to his father breaking
things and having to hire a sitter to watch his father when he's gone. Bear has a talk with Max to

try and encourage him to open up and care about people. Max makes a date with a girl named
ANA on tinder, but has to leave due to the babysitter encountering an emergency just as Ana

walks in. Max takes care of Ana's drinks and apologizes for leaving because of his father. She
seems to think it's fine and the two pursue a relationship, even after Dan walks in on them having

sex. Max's relationship with Ana is different and he fancies himself in love with her. Max goes to
see Jonathan after a victory, leaving Ana in charge of Dan. Dan runs off when Ana is vacuuming, leaving Ana panicked. Max is worried and everyone, including Jonathan, tries to find Dan. Eventually, Dan turns himself in after driving to Massachusetts. Jonathan picks him up while Max

goes home to Ana. The two break up due to Max being responsible for his father just as Jonathan brings Dan home. The movie ends as Dan and Max have

a heart to heart and go to the grocery, where they run into the hot girl dressed in yoga pants again. She doesn't seem to mind Dan's comments, and the three shop together.
