My name is Danijela Korejzl. I come from a small country, Croatia, where I grew up in a small, ancient town by the sea called Trogir. Although enormously beautiful, the limitations of a small town made me want to explore the world much further. As a young woman freshly graduated from middle school, I pursued studies in Political Science, which I later transitioned to Economics, culminating in the attainment of my bachelor's degree. Following my academic endeavors, I dedicated an extensive period to marketing and sales roles, ultimately leading me to the esteemed position of Director of Digital Marketing in the multinational corporation. After years spent in corporate environments, I made a conscious decision to pivot my professional trajectory entirely. This pivotal moment spurred me to embark on a journey toward mastering music production and film directing. I committed myself to this transition by enrolling in a 12-week Filmmaking course at the New York Film Academy (NYFA), a decision that has led me to my current position and ignited my aspirations within the creative industry. I went to study at the New York Film Academy, and as part of my studies, I directed this short student film. My first narrative ever made. The short student film Broken Humanity was inspired by the time of COVID-19, pre pre-lockdown phase, and other events I witnessed in New York. As a little girl 11 years old, I first time visited NYC for the whole summertime. The city back then was (for me) the most beautiful place in the world, and although it is still wonderful, I came across a somewhat different view. Problems of politics, healthcare, the number of homeless people on the streets, dirt, lost people after and during the COVID pandemic, etc. I began to wonder how it was possible that innocent people were being thrown onto train tracks and if the world had lost its compass. Has humanity been lost? The mission of the movie Broken Humanity is to warn about the problems of modern society that are partly caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the political crisis in which people easily lose themselves because they feel unprotected. I shot the film with my colleagues from NYFA, and after that, the post-production was done back home in Zagreb, Croatia.
