Danielle Seid is Assistant Professor of English at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, where she teaches a range of undergraduate and graduate film and media courses. Recently, she was awarded a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Humanities to support her book-in-progress Beautiful Empire: The Asian American Femme of the Televisual Age, 1950-1995, which explores Asian American women in U.S. television history. Previously, she has published articles on Asian American auntie cooking shows, the Korean girl group The Kim Sisters, and trans media. Having recently discovered the world of videographic criticism—the practice of using existing film and audio footage in remixed and creative ways to produce critical thought—she is now working on numerous video essays on a range of media objects and social issues.
