As an immigrant to Canada, I often found myself sliding between definitions of my identity. This has shaped a fascination with how we come to choose our masks, whom we wear them for, and what happens when they no longer fit.
Dan Abramovici is an Israel-born actor/filmmaker from Canada. This background has shaped in him an interest in stories that question identity.
Dan has worked for years as an actor, on such shows as Star Trek Discovery, Wayne, Murdoch Mysteries, and others, then wrote and starred in the feature film Ben's At Home in 2015. He can next be seen in Sofia Coppola's Priscilla.
In 2019 Dan began to work behind the camera. liminal, which he wrote and directed, won the Best Short award at Canadian Film Fest and Snowdance International film festival, as well as an Honorable Mention at the Oscar-qualifying Dances With Films. It went on to play festivals such as HollyShorts, Dublin, Newport Beach, BendFilm, and Raindance.
His followup, Play It Again, premiered at the Austin International Film Festival where it picked up the Jury Award for Best Short, making it Academy Qualifying for 2023.
Coming up in 2023, is Spaceman. The surrealist short, and companion piece to liminal, stars Trevor Copp, with the voices of Academy Award Winner JK Simmons (Spiderman, Whiplash, Juno) and Mena Massoud (Aladdin, Evolving Vegan).
