Damily, episode 1: Kuklun ("to gather by turning")

On 9 September 2022, Malagasy guitarist Damily told me that his mother, Melo, had died in Tongobory (200 km from Tuléar).
Living in France, he was unable to attend her funeral, but decided to organise a "second funeral" in accordance with Malagasy tradition.
A family member and organiser, Damily also intended to take part as a musician. He will play there with his band, in honour of his mother, for his family and for the members of the community.
This moment, this ritual space, will also be the venue for the live recording of his next album.
On the spot, however, Freddy, a cyclone with uncontrollable effects threatens the project. But it also perhaps reinforces what lies at the heart of the subject: displacement, placement and dis-placement. Music and its ability to bring people together, to be a gift, to make space, as if to erase space.
CYCLONE, n.
Nineteenth century. Borrowed from the English cyclone, formed from the Greek kuklôn, present participle of kukloun, "to gather by turning". (Dictionnaire de l'académie française).
