Hayden began his career a decade ago as the youngest ENG news cameraman in Australia, shooting and editing stories for rural broadcaster GWN. Since then he has gone on to become an award winning Director & Producer with experience on a dozen feature films and double that number of shorts to his name.
Nominated for Young Filmmaker of the Year at the WA Screen Awards in 2014 & 2016, he’s worked across Australia on projects big and small – from videos for non- profits to Hollywood Blockbusters like the latest in the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ franchise.
Hayden places an emphasis on audience reaction at all times. Keeping their thoughts and feelings at the forefront of his mind - he combines high impact visuals and natural performances with a love of symmetry and innovation. The result is a knack for communicating ideas simply and emotionally.
In 2018, father-daughter duo, Jess & Peter Cappendell decided to bike tour 1250 kilometers across Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan in Central Asia. It would be a 21-day, self-supported adventure that took them to the limits both physically and mentally. Having completed a similar cycle trip through the Australian desert previously, they wanted to push themselves to the next level with an expedition more extreme than ever before. So, of course, I decided to give them a camera…
“Daddy-Daughter Time” is the documentary we’ve created about this incredible journey. It’s an uncompromising look at what it truly takes to step outside your comfort zone and immerse yourself in a way of life completely foreign to your own. This is made all the more entertaining by Peter & Jess who are fantastic characters to follow throughout this monumental ordeal. Over the course of the story their relationship is tested by hard kilometers, blistering heat and debilitating illness but the audience will fall in love with this unique pair and their brutally honest narration of every new challenge they face.
While the technical aspects of filming under such intense and remote conditions proved extremely difficult, it’s the narrative and raw emotion of this documentary that make it edge-of-your-seat viewing. With a fast paced editing style and engaging soundtrack this short film while have everyone watching ready to jump on a bike and start planning their next adventure.
