Director Biography - Natasha Jumelet

Natasha Jumelet is Deaf NZSL user and has passion for making films, cooking and food. Her love of cooking and other arts and crafts saw her set up the Deaf Wellbeing Society inc (DWS) with her sister Yolanda. The goal was to providing isolated Deaf people with meaningful engagement and at the same time teach them to make healthy and affordable meals. For this year's Matariki celebration members of the Auckland Deaf community came together to make a hangi. Natasha saw the opportunity to capture the process and community spirit associated with this shared celebration. This film is the latest in Natasha's series of popular Deaf community recipe series. Her work does more than just demonstrate how to create delicious food. It also chronicles the diverse and rich cultural intersectionality of Auckland's multicultural Deaf community.
