OFFICIAL SELECTION
Neill De Cock was born in 2000 in Bruges.
He grew up with his two younger brothers in a village nearby. His father had a self-employed roofing company and his mother worked for the National Company of Belgian Railways. During his teenage years, he joined a youth movement where he later led the youngest group for three years as a young adult. In secondary school, he started a general secondary humanities course. Because his attention went more to experimenting with a camera and making stop- motion drawings, he finished the last two years of his secondary education at the Kunsthumaniora in Bruges. For the first time, he felt surrounded by people who took his experiments seriously. The academy gave him the opportunity to fall down and stand up with a camera in his hand, and to discover the history of cinema and photography.
After finishing his studies, he decided to leave the small village behind and to study in Brussels. For him, the anonymity of this metropolis equalled freedom. Neill started studying Audiovisual Arts: Film at LUCA SCHOOL OF ARTS Sint-Lukas Brussels. Throughout the course, he mainly took fiction and acting ateliers. The other wealthy ateliers he used as cross-fertilization for his own work. The school made Neill approach cinema from himself and not from an idea of what cinema should be.
During his studies, he worked in Cinema Galeries, where he came face to face with what modern cinema can be.
