Director Statement

The inspiration for Drawn came from experimenting with digitizing sketches, exploring the energy of bringing drawings to life, and creating moving art as an element in documentary film. I immediately thought of Bo Schwarz, whose passion for sketching and captivating riding style made him the perfect collaborator. Bo embraced the concept, bringing his unique skills to both the trails and canvas, adding his own creative energy.

As the project evolved, Bo crafted scene-specific artwork that was so compelling I chose not to animate it. The depth and detail in his drawings conveyed their own narrative, and I wanted his riding to bring the art to life, allowing viewers to appreciate his work in its pure form.

For me, storytelling and documentary work is about immersing viewers in sensory details to create dynamic narratives or provide a connection with cultures, landscapes, people and sports. In this way, Drawn provided a unique way to capture the spirit of a young artist and athlete.

Bo and I hope Drawn invites you to experience art and movement in a new way.
