DORA

"DORA" is a fictional black and white anti-war drama based on the diary of Dorothea Bock.
Jolina Simpson's great-grand aunt, Dorothea Bock, was commissioned in World War II by the Luftgaukommando III in Berlin as a youth advisor and war photographer. After Dora's death, in spring 2022 the family found many of her original photographs and an undiscovered diary. In it, she wrote of experiences and encounters during the war and how she felt about them. While reading her story we were moved, partially shocked and this sparked in us the will to showcase these incredible experiences in a film. She was an extraordinary, strong and defensible woman in difficult times. She was particularly courageous, resilient and rebellious for her age and for the time in which she lived. Her view of life fascinated us.

"DORA" dives into some key moments of her past - fleeing in the war from Russian forces. It gives a glimpse into her early childhood of the 1920s. The feature film attempts to convey what it must have felt like to be a young woman to grow up in the war, to stand up for basic human rights and to fight for survival every day. The film is about four courageous young people, who were defenseless in the circumstances of their time. They are victims of those who instigated the war and, despite everything, find ways to hold on to a future worth living.
How does one survive such a terrible time?
