An award-winning Indian director. Received 2012 Filmfare Debutant Director for Delhi Belly— a hinglish cult film for Aamir Khan Productions, ranked most successful movie of the year. Latest film Blackmail, featuring Irfan Khan released in April 2018.
We are excited for you to view Doosra and find an uplifting freedom story that takes-on social prejudices of race, gender and sexuality in a fresh groundbreaking format.
Doosra is a bold film both in its subject and its treatment. Set in India at the turn of the millennium with cricket as the centerpiece for cultural change, the film uses both narrative and documentary styles to weave together two storylines – one played out by the Indian cricket team under the harsh glare of the national spotlight using archival footage and interviews; the other a deeply private story of a defiant young girl using fictional narrative.
The juxtaposition of documentary and narrative are intentional to the story and convey the public-private world we live in and are influenced by every day. Through this experimentation we use archival footage, interviews, scripted and narrative as complementary rather than alternative styles, blurring the boundaries and creating an intricate mosaic of parallel stories.
