LONG SYNOPSIS:
"Distance" explores how we experience human connection and eroticism in a time of social distancing. This short film is an excerpt from a larger project made up of real women's fantasies, unaltered for the male gaze. "Distance" shows how even during a pandemic we will go to great lengths to connect.
The protagonist (Eva May) finds herself in lockdown, where the Australian government has banned sex between members of different households. Despite being surrounded by housemates, she grows increasingly frustrated and yearns for connection. She escapes for her daily exercise where the lines between her reality and fantasies are blurred. Connection can be found in unconventional places, such as Eva fantasising about strangers in the street or engaging in a steamy romance with a next door neighbour she's never met. Her exploration culminates in her breaking the rules - symbolic of her own sexual awakening.
