DEVIPAKSHA
A parody-drama film accounting for the major intellect of Bengalis who think 'Devipaksha' (the period of Durga Puja or the day of Mahalaya) begins with the narration of Birendra Krishna Bhadra in 'Mahisasura Mardini' (a popular play made by All India Radio and played every year at the day of Mahalaya).
A day before Mahalaya at a teashop, a Generation Z boy comes across an argument with a Generation X intellect Bengali man. The boy counters the old man by saying, "So if I won't wake up early tomorrow and play the radio, the sun is not going to rise. Right?"
And the words come true. The boy wakes up late. Realising that it's still dark outside at 6:30 a.m., he rushes to another room to get the radio and hurries to play.
Once the radio plays, the world changes for the boy. The psychology of a generation Z tries to connect with the nostalgia of generation X but couldn't make a path. After a long time, the boy enjoys the sunrise (not certainly). The people who were passing by the road for their jobs blames him for disrupting their regular schedule. But the boy isn't even bothered by that. He smiles at them. He is at present enjoying his authority (the control of on Sun). Once he got interrupted when a Generation Z boy blamed him like others were. He smiles at him too.
His parent in the morning comes to his room and sees cigarettes spread on the bed. The boy still didn't notice someone had come. Sitting on the window watching the beauty outside, enjoying his authority, and suddenly a SLAP!
The dream breaks. It's 11:00 a.m. The sun woke much early at his time as regular. The boy, seeing all this, smiles. The simle proves that the day passes by on its own. It is we who make some days special and celebrate them to build emotions or memories with them. and some of us make it a big deal!
