Director Statement

Idea of isolation and loneliness is always shown through characters and their journey’s. The thought of corelating the incidents with some kind of an inanimate object like a tree is where it all started. Being a living thing, it does have a life. A thought of different stories that it observes and of which it keeps to itself is pretty interesting. But also, the loneliness that it goes through as it only listens to everyone, but finds no one to share its own story with. “Darakht” is a film that shows the ageing of the tree in a dramatic manner, the stories that it hears and the growth of everyone that it witnesses. Its presence is always felt, but its story remains with itself. A tree more like a life giver, at the end of the day remains alienated. Delivering all of these thoughts and ideas in a minimalistic manner is what intrigued us.
