Cycle was an incredible project to work on as the whole crew was fully devoted to bringing the depth of the script to life. When I initially wrote Cycle, it was my goal to showcase a young boy overcoming the odds and choosing to leave a bad situation; however, as the film evolved I realized that the Father's story was just as important. I wanted to show why Ben, the Father, is so verbally abusive and distant from his son. At the heart of it, Cycle is meant to show that those who feel trapped in a certain life or unhealthy relationship have the power to simply leave; While the person that's pouring out abuse has just as much opportunity to change as well. One of my favorite parts of the film was watching the actor's performances and knowing what direction it took to get them to that place. If there was a word to summarize Cycle, it would be courage. It takes courage for a father to admit he's been a failure. It takes courage to leave someone you love, even if they're quite abusive. This film wouldn't have been possible without such an amazing crew.
