Cupcake

A young couple are reunited. When one partner brings up an uncomfortable topic, the other confesses she isn’t attracted to him. This leads to a clash where he attempts to explain how he experiences attraction as best he can - with a dancing cupcake.

(Without explicitly saying it, an asexual relationship story).

Director Statement

When I was discovering I was on the asexual spectrum, my first awareness of this identity came from entertainment and media. However, I started to notice that the few asexual characters represented role’s didn’t change or expand. And they weren’t the primary focus of the story.
Very much in my voice, I created Cupcake to tell a story with a focus on an asexual individual, the confusing parts of how coming to terms with your orientation can be when it’s not clear cut, and how it can affect relationships when there are other people in your life.
