Director Biography - Fernando Fraguela Fosado

Fernando Fraguela (1991, Cuba) Graduated in Film Direction in 2018 at the University of Arts, Cuba. Graduated in 2019 of Documentary Video Production in Havana, from NYU Tisch School of the Arts. He directed and wrote the documentaries The abattoir, awarded best documentary at Sacramento Underground FF, and best documentary script at FICIMAD, Spain and Dreams Adrift (2019) premiered at BAFICI and awarded best Cultural representation in Cine Austral FF; and Las desdichas de un hombre (2018) Best documentary at Imago Film Festival. And directed and wrote the shortfilms Ladridos (2016) Official Selection in Gibara Film Festival, and Un hombre (2015) Best shortfilm at El almacen de la Imagen. He won the script creation scholarship Chicuelo in 2015 and 2017 with the projects La Lucha and Tierra Roja. His films have been presents in USA, Europe, latin Amaerican and Asia as parts of film festival and film exibitions.

Director Statement

Fernando Fraguela is a Cuban filmmaker who since 2019 has been closely involved with the protests of the Cuban art movement, against the government of the island. Censored in his home country he tries to narrate the Cuban reality, so far from the propaganda machinery of the regime.
