Director Biography - Ferrán Vergara

Ferrán Vergara studied philosophy, industrial maintenance and later dedicated himself to cinema. In 2020, he founded Cagliostro Cinema, a production company specializing in film essays, recycled archive material and unconventional documentary approaches. His short films and documentary projects have been presented at various festivals and markets in Latin America. Currently, he is working on his first feature film.

Director Statement

"Crude" delves into Santiago's main meat market in Chile, where traders share their struggles, reflections, and dreams in a developing country aiming for progress under the neoliberal model. The documentary intertwines their conflicting perceptions of life with crude footage of the fresh meat trade, challenging human perceptions of existence in a workplace focused on animal sacrifice. It's a film that questions our relationship with other species and sheds light on social disparities, engaging the viewer with ethical and social inquiries about life and development.
