Cross Stitch

The untimely loss of a beloved one and the extra hardship of mourning a death by suicide are the themes behind Cross Stitch. Symbolism and Surrealism inspire a heavily emotional composition reminiscent of Portuguese “fado” while rewriting its tradition. An unusual 5-verse progression built on dark synths and strings and 1990s bass leads to an epic chorus with subtle harmonies rising up to an end that is filled with hope. The Music Video translates this structure into a short narrative condensing a ritual cleansing with copal followed by a body suspension whereby the performer impersonates hope beyond death.
