Maria Gomez is an award winning filmmaker and visual artist from Staten Island, New York currently studying her senior year at the Los Angeles Film School for a bachelor’s degree in digital filmmaking. As a visual artist she takes pride in creating abstract poetic independent projects. In Marias eyes film is more than just a roll of footage, it’s a trip into the deep corners of someone's imagination.; The chance to bring their dreams and creative visions to life. Growing up in the 90s she was always fascinated by horror films and dark romances like “Edward Scissorhands.” It has always been her passion to infuse abstract art with film. Her first film internship was at the Educational Video Center. Soon after that she continued on her journey through different film internships at Manhattan Neighborhood Network. Finding herself being drawn further into the craft of filmmaking after working for a short while at the Youth Channel. Maria started her film academic journey three years ago. Spending long hours studying the mise-en-scène of filmmaking, she would learn how important a premise is in a film; reaching deeper within herself to produce projects that held the essence of an abstract mind. In 2021 Maria's first course in directing two, would lead her to direct an Internationally award winning film "Pushing Up Orchids", Where she won "Best Horror" at The Rome International Movie Awards, and "Best Music In Short" at the "Paris International Short Festival". It was through her emotional breakthrough after the loss of her father Victor Gomez, that inspired her to let go of fear, and jump head first into field production for "Pushing Up Orchids" only three weeks later. Truly manifesting her greatest desires. Maria believes anything is possible, and it is her soul passion and purpose to shed light on important struggles people face by the art of filmmaking; Making a difference through raising awareness in different artistic forms of expression.
As a visual artist and filmmaker before that, I am part of the children of the revolution from this generation. Penniless or rich, raising awareness is priceless.
