Creatures in My House is Ilena Finocchi’s first animated short film. As a celebrated multi-disciplinary artist, her sculptural work has been exhibited nationally, including Art Basil Miami, SoFA Chicago, and the Museum of Art & Design, NY. In addition, Ilena has been an artist-in-residence at the Archie Bray Foundation, MT and the McKnight Residency, MN. Working in public art she recently completed a grant funded library project featuring a 20’x30’ mural and flip book workshop series. Ilena’s stop motion animation is the dynamic culmination of her interests, creative practice and storytelling.
I grew up with a house full of amazing story tellers. I am a 1st generation American, half of my family Italian immigrants. Fundamentally as an artist I am interested in the micro and macro impact of art in a space and time. Since my technical skills are wide spread from sculpture to painting to illustration and my attention to detail acute, I have been able to put all the pieces of all my passions together in film. Stop motion animation is the pinnacle of creativity for me to be able to create physical worlds and tell stories through the magic of animation. Creatures in My House is a nod to the films I grew up watching but through the lens of my own life and perspective bridging humor and strangeness.
