"My hair isn’t just my hair. It’s me.
When I was young, my mother insisted on beading my braids, but I refused. I didn’t want to be the only one in school who looked that way; so I concealed my hair from the world.
By the time I got my first job, I began to embrace my natural hair. But, as the minority in a mostly white environment, my hair was a direction for fingers to point; so I concealed it from the world.
Now, I know myself;
Now, when people try to touch my hair; I dodge them. When people ask me to tame my hair; I style it bolder.
Now I know that my natural hair is just the beginning."
