Director Statement

I believe a society that considers women and children to be equal, is the respectful society. Ignoring women is originated from patriarchal views, but if children are ignored, is originated from both patriarchal and matriarchal views. paying attention to children and teens' problems must be thought provoking not sympathy. As a filmmaker, I endeavour to pose an issue rather than solving the issue. Because the posing an issue helps to solve the issue and makes the society more sensitized to that. In fact, a filmmaker cannot solve the social and psychological problems, but raising the issues in this field, is what the children and teens filmmakers must follow it up.
Nora, the protagonist of the short film Crack, faces a problem that has based on a lie, which is deeply rooted in many psychological problems that consequently cause her to get away from intolerable burden by self-inflicting wound. As I had a deep understanding of the subject, I started to write the script. In fact, the film initial idea came from my own past personal experience, which inspired me to make the film. Generally, the more important point to me than anything else in the film, which I tried to pay attention to, was the lack of true relationship and interaction of people with each other; specifically issues of children's relationship with their divorced parents. We live in a period when people have less dialogues with each other insofar as mutual understanding and true relationship even with closest members of family are fading out, which cause the irreparable damages in life. The consequences of the lack of her mother's presence and relationship with her, result in Nora to experience further isolation and lack of relationship with outside world. Nora's need to talk and spend more time with her mother makes Nora try to be like her and occupies her position even by lying to fill the gap to some extent. Mother draws Nora without knowing her real inner emotions. The portray that Nora's mother drawing is not her real image. Nora's real image is the one that the cracked mirror in the toilet portrays in the last scene. The crack is the metaphor of Nora's inner emotion that her mother has never seen to draw it. This film always has a special place in my artistic portfolio as addressing the children and teenagers problems have always been one of my most crucial concerns as a filmmaker.
