Counting Անվերջ հաշիվ

View from my window. Shot on a cellphone during the COVID-19 quarantine in Montreal, almost 9 thousand kilometres away from home.

For judging information only: the whispering heard in the video is simply me counting in Armenian. The video does not need subtitles.

Director Biography - Anna Grigorian

Anna Grigorian was born in Yerevan, Armenia. Her art practice is based between Montreal and Yerevan since 2013.

Currently, she is working in the mediums of video art and installation. Employing the surreal, the uncanny and “silly”, absurdist humor, her practice revolves around questioning the power relations between individuals, and sociopolitical systems. Her pieces are aimed at disrupting the habitual, and presenting the reality under an unexpected angle.

The main inspiration for her work comes from facing and challenging accepted socioeconomic realities, unspoken rules on individual well being, fixed structures that influence and often dictate our life. Constructing absurd, surreal situations and using humor allows her to present the accepted norms, and dominant structures of our society from a different angle.
