Writer Biography - Kevin Norman

Kevin’s began to take his writing ability seriously going back to his high school days where his book of poems was published in the school newspaper and local school district publications. He also won multiple essay writing competitions. He went on to attend college and graduate from the University of Houston with a Bachelor’s of Science in Information Systems Technology with Magna Cum Laude Honors in December of 2003.
However, film and television did not enter his life until the age of twenty-nine where he overheard a third-party conversation mentioning the term “screenplay.” For the next couple of years, he wrote several screenplays which garnered the following recognition:
- Finalist in Gordy Hoffman’s BlueCat Screenplay Competition (two years consecutively)
- Finalist in Julie Gray’s “Just Effin’ Entertain Me” Screenplay Competition
- Finalist in the Page International Screenplay Competition
While the accolades were fine, he was still unsatisfied. He decided to write and direct his first short film “Downlow” (about a young man recently learning that he was HIV-positive) which garnered a Silver Remi Award from the 2009 Worldfest International Film Festival. He then continued on with his first feature film “Queenie: Priestess of the Ghetto” which was recognized at the 2011 San Diego Black Film Festival with opening-night premiere status. Soon after, his experimental short film “Time Lord” was nominated “Most Cutting edge” at the 2014 San Diego Black Film Festival.
An earlier project, “Time Lord: The Series, Episode 1 ” premiered at the 2016 Festival International Du Film Pan Africain De Cannes in Cannes, France. His most recent project, “In Our Shoes,” is an episodic television series that takes on a racial violence in the United States. His vision is for the series to change society for the better through shared experiences
