Director Biography - Aranza Bergés Navarrete, Alycia Chan, Ryah King, Ky Milliken, Yije Park, Yuna Shin, Chloe Worrall-Yu

Aranza Berges Navarrete is an international student from Mexico City, currently enrolled at Emily Carr University of Art & Design as 2nd year student majoring in 2D & Experimental Animation. To her, animation is the most beautiful artform around. It should be widely distributed and appreciated. Aranza is particularly inspired by an influential director who said that “animation is not a genre, it is a medium.” City Poems has been a wonderful opportunity to engage with both experimentation and literature and connect them through animation. “Contrasts” is also an homage to neglected cultures in Vancouver’s history. Aranza is excited to share her animation with the world.

Alycia Chan is from Vancouver and studies 2D & Experimental Animation at Emily Carr University. Since childhood, she has been interested in, and has continued to love, animation and art. The City Poems Project has been a first step in the pursuit of her dream to create original pieces of animation with other people.

Chloe Worrall-Yu is a 2nd year 2D animation student at Emily Carr University of Art & Design. She does animation because it is her favourite way to tell stories. She enjoys seeing the results of creative hard work in motion. During the making of “Contrasts, Chloe was involved with designing and rigging some of the puppets, and then animation of the characters.

Yuna Shin is from South Korea and studies 2D Animation at Emily Carr University. Her creative interests are concept art, pre-production development, and sound design, which are practices she was able to integrate with the making of “Contrasts.”

Yije Park is from South Korea and is in the 2D Animation Major at Emily Carr University. Her interests are pre-production storyboard development and concept art, direction, character rigging, layout and background creation, and sound design.

Ky Milliken is from Surrey, BC, and is currently a 2nd year 2D Animation student at Emily Carr. She loves cartoons and video games and appreciates the creativity and effort it takes to bring characters and worlds to life. With City Poems, she learned to rig and animation characters, and to do what it takes to collaborate on a large, comprehensive project. She has enjoyed working with her peers on “Contrasts,” and to learn more about the rich history and cultures of Vancouver.

Ryah King is an international student from Barbados, currently studying 2D animation at Emily Carr University. Her main focus is digital media, and she applies a ton of colour in everything she creates. Ryah previously studied 3D computer animation in Toronto and plans to apply both practices with her studies and future career. She pursues passions with fan art, she loves cats, and aspires to be eco-friendly.
