Director Biography - Bryant Anderson

Bryant Anderson, a filmmaker and screenwriter from
Cleveland, Ohio, began his career in the film industry by
working on various local projects, taking on roles as an actor
and assistant director. He often recalls how his first days on
set, filled with long hours and little to no pay, forced him to
channel those hard-learned lessons into his directorial debut,
Finale…
The short film 'Finale' is a project Bryant directed,
wrote, and produced. Anderson was inspired by the epidemic,
which deeply affected him and motivated him to explore the
complex dynamics of brotherhood and mortality. "Finale" is an
urban drama that explores the lives of two brothers—one a drug
dealer, the other a homosexual dying of AIDS. The film
culminates in a powerful conclusion where one of the brothers
meets his fate. "Finale" was selected for screening at the
fourth annual Urban MediaMakers Film Festival.
Building on the emotional depth he explored in Finale,
Anderson turned his attention to societal issues with A Day of
Racism, where he continued to unravel the complexities of human
relationships, this time through the lens of race and hatred.
The film delves into the life of a young man determined to
combat racism, offering a stark and realistic portrayal of how
racist language can incite violence and change lives. "A Day of
Racism" was a finalist in the December 2020 New York Movie
Awards.
With a passion for giving voice to underrepresented
communities, Anderson's screenplay A Family is a Family further
showcased his commitment to exploring non-traditional
narratives, reflecting his belief in the importance of diverse
stories. His feature-length script tells the story of a gay
boarding house owner who struggles to be a father figure to his
varied and unruly tenants. In 2022, the screenplay was selected
for both the KinoDrome: International Motion Picture &
Screenplay Festival and the Urban MediaMakers Festival.
Anderson's urban thriller screenplay, "You Better Run, You
Better Hide," features a female lead and tells the gripping
story of a plus-size fitness instructor who defies a
state-mandated quarantine only to be hunted by a sociopath with
a deep-seated hatred for women like her. In 2022, the screenplay
was a finalist in the Hollywood Just4Shorts Film and Screenplay
Competition.
That same year, Bryant Anderson directed the short film
Perspective, written by Niece Anderson. The story centers on a
young man wrestling with a moral dilemma as he prepares to
propose to the woman he loves, who is troubled by his
overwhelming devotion. Perspective was released in September
2022.
Riding on the success and experience of his previous works,
Anderson set out to make an even more significant impact in 2024
by directing three short films within a single year. The first,
The Alumni, is a science fiction drama; the second, Consolation,
is a thriller; and the third, Detour to Love, is a romantic
drama.
Reflecting on his journey, Anderson often speaks about the
challenges and triumphs that shaped his career. His passion for
storytelling is fueled by a desire to give voice to those
usually unheard, and he dreams of one-day creating feature films
that capture the essence of his stories.
