Confluence + FlowILM
A combination of two art/science related short documentaries meant to be viewed back to back.
CONFLUENCE:
Confluence follows artist and UNCW art professor Gene A. Felice II and The Algae Society on a large exhibition at the Cameron Art Museum in Wilmington, NC featuring unique artists and scientists. It was a multimedia and multidisciplinary creative collaboration that focused on artwork that uses and is inspired by algae.
"CONFLUENCE at the Cameron Art Museum showcases a variety of media formats, time & magnification scales, and creative approaches to being with algae as a multi-sensory art & science (media art & culture) experience. Including growing algal portraits in a Bio Art lab, VR worldmaking experiences, biodegradable 3D printed sculptures, immersive video & sound works, seaweed pressings, 19th century botanical illustrations, a floating island ecosystem, and more." - The Algae Society
FLOWILM:
FlowILM is a short documentary following a team of UNCW Art Department Faculty members who organized and participated in a creative Earth Day art happening at the Cameron Art Museum in Wilmington, NC in April of 2022. Each art project and performance is inspired by our relationship with water.
"The FlowILM event series is produced by the Coaction Lab at the University of North Carolina Wilmington and hosted by the Cameron Art Museum. It features an array of artists, scientists, local non-profits and UNCW labs / programs focused on local / global water issues, including educational and family oriented activities and more. The arts portion of the event features live performance, dance, sculpture, installation and light / sound work." - FlowILM Website

The vision for the Confluence documentary came together when I got news of the exhibit and approached artist Gene A. Felice II about wanting to highlight his work with the Algae Society at Cameron Art Museum. I was fascinated by the exhibit and the bi-weekly art happening experiences tied to it. This turned into a 3 month long coverage that was incredibly deserving of having a documentary made about it.
The vision for the FlowILM documentary started during the filming of the Confluence documentary with artist Gene A. Felice II. I couldn't resist documenting an art happening like FlowILM that's based around our relationship with water and water quality. The event served as the Cameron Art Museum's Earth Day celebration and was a bookend for the Confluence show.
