Common tern
The human hand has changed nature beyond recognition. The small common tern migrates each summer from the South to the South-Moravian dam Nové Mlýny, where it encounters countless traps.
In a lyrical movie by Kryštof Zvolánek filmed on a 16mm camera, men wearing gumboots build sand islands and try to create the convenient living conditions for the common tern. Human demands on water and extended drought, caused by global climate change, has led to a conflict of opinions regarding the height of the water surface. Water managers and environmentalists look for a compromise for the change of the height of the water surface so that it is suitable for both humans and the biodiversity. These small dramas in the life of the common tern are, in a broader point of view, the fight for the future image of nature.
