Come What May
So you want to become an artist? That’s a question Shantell Martin has faced her entire life. In this four-part series, Martin offers an intimate portrait of her world, revealing how a queer, mixed-race girl from a South East London council estate evolved into one of the most exciting, global artists of our time. Through a blend of original artwork, rarely seen archival footage and in-depth interviews, each episode explores a formative stop in her globe-spanning journey: from an artist reckoning with tuff childhood to a visual jockey in Tokyo’s night clubs to an acclaimed New York artist with solo exhibitions in institutions such as the Albright Knox Gallery and collaborations with the likes of Google, Puma and Kendrick Lamar.

Andrew Fuchs is a northern California native currently based in New York, where he studies visual culture at New York University. Fuchs’ roots are in commercial advertising, a field he first pursued while still in high-school, producing content for brands in exchange for product. In the years since, he has refined a unique style which has drawn clients by the likes of Hugo Boss, Boosted Boards, and Skip, among others. In 2018 he collaborated with visual artist Shantell Martin to create “Come What May,” a four-part documentary series. He is currently in post-production on his first narrative short “Hey Stranger,” which will make its festival debut in 2019.
