Director Statement

Colourless is a film that gives a voice to human emotions and thoughts – even the dark ones. Written and directed by me, it is a black sheep amongst all other films that speak towards the happy and sad feelings that we all feel. So many films focus on love, loneliness, sadness and anger, but the dark emotions we dare not to speak and act upon are spoken in Colourless; and a tale of how it can go to the extreme. Throughout the film, the themes of envy, desire and cynicism are all represented by the two important people Macie is connected to; Cora represents envy/jealousy by being an antithesis to Macie and Erik represents desire – the affair he pursues and the successful career that Macie desires. Macie also represents a theme of the film; cynicism––as she lets her worldview and colourblindness dictate how she describes her monochromatic world. The story showcases what these dark emotions can lead to on the most end.
