Collected Voices 2019 is looking for the best films made by amateur and professional filmmakers about life in Chicago and abroad. This year Collected Voices has an Eye on Africa, and welcomes any films that demonstrate or examines Chicago's connection to the African Diaspora.

Official selections will be played throughout the city in thematic screenings, in which audience members will nominate the best films of the night. Officially nominated films will re-screen, followed by a Q&A with present directors on closing night. Winning films will be announced at the final screening and awards party.

Collected Voices features original ethnographic media that explore the intersection of race, age, class, gender, and sexuality within Chicago and society. The goal of the festival is to introduce the ethnographic genre to non-academic communities through short and feature length films and highlight Chicago based artists. The festival also increases exposure for independent filmmakers, and fosters a dialogue between media artists, academics and marginalized communities.

The Best of the Fest are recognized at our annual Halloween Awards Party with laurels to be used on future works.

Films can be any length and produced any year.

All films must be submitted electronically. Images and likeness of the films will be used in marketing and promotional materials of the film festival.

Winning films will have the options to be placed on Collected Voices and distribution partners websites and other online catalogues.

First year launch of this well-curated festival--so, they are working out some details. That said, I enjoyed meeting the festival organizers and others in attendance at our screening on Sunday. Watkins College of Art offers a great exhibition venue with plenty of parking! Nashville is both music city and a film makers paradise, with many like minded artists in this growing community.

Having my film premiere at Collected Voices was a wonderful experience. I highly recommend anyone interested in experimental documentary, ethnographic film and visual anthropology to submit to this festival in the future. Ife's wide breathe of film types and overall vision for curating and programming work is exceptional.
