Cochlea
The snail is at the origin of many presages, in England, crossing a black snail that crosses the road is an unfortunate sign, while seeing one when you are about to leave for travel can bring good luck. As I continue my research, I realize that the snail symbol among Christians is sometimes represented directly in sculpture on churches: on the church of Saint-Pierre in Isle-Aumont, on both sides of the building, symmetrically, there is a dead snail on one side, and the other a living snail. In a chapter of On ne voit rien, Daniel Arasse focuses his research on the presence of a large gastropod on the border of the painting: the Annunciation by Francesco Del Cossa. During my investigation I think back to a poem by Jacques Prévert, Song of the snails that go to the burial of a dead leaf.
