Director Statement

Over the past year, many significant events have unfolded around me. Several family members passed away unexpectedly, leaving me in shock. One day, a childhood friend from my hometown called to say goodbye, explaining that he had violated the law in his struggle to make a living. He planned to turn himself in the next day and told me we might not be able to contact each other for a long time. During our phone conversation, I felt his profound helplessness and uncertainty about the future—emotions that led him astray and caused him to make a regrettable mistake.

Another close friend invited me to his wedding, which should have been a joyous occasion. However, his words revealed frustration and a sense of resignation about marriage, rather than happiness.

These two friends left a deep impression on me. As someone pursuing a career in a big city far from home, I’ve come to realise how uncertain and confused many young people feel at this stage of life. Whenever I return to my hometown, I enjoy climbing the mountains nearby, which hold countless memories and emotions. Yet, as time goes by, those mountains, once vibrant, now seem desolate. Standing before them, I feel the smallness and insignificance of humanity in the face of such vastness and uncertainty.

These emotions inspired me to create Clouds in the Wind.
