Director Biography - Edan Ashkenazi

Born and Raised in Queens, NY by two immigrant parents, Edan's interest for film grew out of his love for literature. After watching the Harry Potter movie series and The King's Speech at the age of 13, he began to see film as high-art as well as a creative outlet. He then began his film education by attending Frank Sinatra School of the Arts -- an NYC performing arts high school. Nevertheless, he never saw a career in film as viable option for him, so following his high school graduation he went to college to study chemical and biological engineering. Almost immediately after beginning his studies, he realized that he made a huge mistake. Feeling disconnected from his studies, he determined that a life in film is his true calling and so he applied to film schools all over the nation. Luckily, he was accepted to NYU's Tisch School of the Arts where he continues his film education by directing short films.

Director Statement

When touring an old, large stone quarry in the Czech Republic, I was inspired by its haunting tunnels and mythological atmosphere to tell a story that I felt was unique to the Czech Republic, its communist past, and the historic Velvet Revolution.
