Writer Biography - Chelsea Cassio, Chelsea Cassio

After graduating from film school, Chelsea sold her first short film, Imaginary Friend, to ABC (Australia), which aired over a three-year period. She has since written for The Doctor Blake Mysteries (BBC/ABC) and Secret Bridesmaids' Business (Channel 4/7 Network).

Chelsea has had several original television concepts in development with various production companies, including Mediawan (France), Atlantic Nomad (UK), Easy Tiger (Australia) and most recently, Federation Entertainment (France). In 2020, her sci-fi series 'Yesterday' was selected for Imagine Impact - a global content accelerator program launched by Ron Howard and Brian Grazer. In 2022, her series 'The Others' was selected for the UGC Writers' Lab at Series Mania in Lille, France.

Writer Statement

I'm Chelsea Cassio, an Australian screenwriter with experience in creating original series and contributing to other produced television projects.

My eight-part mystery series, CLOAK, holds a special place in my heart. It delves into the lives of an underprivileged community, revealing their unique brand of happiness. At its core, this series sheds light on a forgotten town and its central character, Helena Cloak.

The inspiration for this story came from a news item in Australia, recounting a regional murder where the victim lived next door to the perpetrator. It was from this news story that the characters of Helena and Ted were born. CLOAK explores the theme of control, particularly the power dynamics that exist between individuals and the quest to break free from them.

As I present CLOAK, I am eager to connect with fellow industry professionals and potential producers. I have a complete TV pitch deck prepared for this series, and I'm deeply passionate about its narrative. CLOAK not only satisfies an audience's appetite for mystery but also offers a compelling journey filled with unexpected twists and turns throughout the series.
