Clarum Somnium

Alexandre David Lejuez is the author of several independent short and feature films made with his production Noctura Films, since 2018. His universe with dark and saturated colors deals with different themes such as loneliness, chaos, horror, psychology, eroticism but also dreams and nightmares. All cradled in an abstract, sensory and experimental form.

The main idea being to reinvent the cinematographic form and not to follow any rules. His stories, mostly taking place behind closed doors, feature one or two protagonists. He attach great importance to the unreal aspect of his story as well as to the temporality and dilation of time. His style, somewhat minimalist, is forged in a dreamlike, even psychedelic photography and staging, constructed in a visual and pictorial way. Unusual and religious objects appear regularly in disturbing half-timbered decorations.

The sound design in which the classic and the gloomy intertwine creates a certain unease. The characters, with a tortured mind, take a dark and pessimistic look at the society around them. They are in perpetual existential quest… Disordered reality takes precedence over their conscience.

For each project, ADL is involved in all sectors leading to the production of his film (photography, sound, editing, etc.) and does not hesitate to stage himself in front of the camera to interpret his male roles. The female roles, as for them, are entrusted for a large part to the actress Eva Langlet who has this ability to pass from the unhealthy and demonic woman to the glamorous, romantic and sensual woman. This familiarization of the spectator with the actors makes it possible to link the films to each other and to create a global work in which everyone is free to interpret as they wish the images and sounds offered to them, although a precise meaning has been meticulously developed by the director.

Passionate about art in general, ADL is also a pianist and composer. He also devotes himself to painting and stages his drawings and canvases in his various films.

His films, highly personal and experimental, have been the subject of several selections and awards at festivals, as well as interviews and reviews internationally.

Alongside his personal works of fiction, ADL collaborates with different artists for several types of projects such as photography and music videos.
