Clarence Cuts Loose

Clarence Cuts Loose tells the story of Clarence, a college student on the autism spectrum, hard at work building his own robot. Clarence’s work is quickly interrupted when his acquaintance, Neil, introduces a new task for Clarence to work on: shotgunning a beer. After some hesitancy, Clarence becomes enamored with the challenge of shotgunning drinks and, by proxy, becomes hooked on the partying lifestyle, leading him down a dangerous path filled with wild stunts and a concerning amount of alcohol. Following a particularly egregious beer-funneling incident, Clarence must learn to balance his newfound excitement for partying with the life he has outside of it before losing his friends and the robot he worked so hard on.

Director Statement

We wanted to make a film that deals with party culture in a more nuanced and honest way than most college comedies. The film has a unique lens that comedically portrays the college partying lifestyle, but reminds viewers that there is a point where things go too far. We paired that with the desire to make a film about someone on the spectrum who struggles with social situations but is not defined by those struggles.
