City of Gold
Yoyong (10) together with his siblings, Darwin (14) and Abet (12) work as child gold miners in Mt. Diwalwal, Compostela Valley, Philippines. Amidst the threat of a riot between opposing group of miners, the three brothers bravely decide to continue working in the mines for them to go to school and save enough money for the government housing project. Will they be able to leave Diwalwal or will their dreams crumble down like the giant boulders their small hands chip every day?

Jarell Serencio is an independent film director, producer, and writer, who was brought up in a family of community leaders from Davao City, Southern Philippines. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communication, and worked as head researcher and writer for “Maalala Mo Kaya” (Remembering), the longest running drama anthology show on Philippine television. He was mentored by Ricky Lee for Film & TV scriptwriting in 2004 and Armando Lao for Found Story scriptwriting in 2010. Jarell was one of the 20 Asian filmmakers accepted for 2018 International Film Business Academy at Busan Asian Film School, South Korea where he studied International Film Producing and Co-Production. He is now developing his first feature-length project entitled, Diwalwal which he presented at the Link of Cine Asia 2018 in Busan, and Neo Cinemap Fukuoka, Japan.
